AI Tutor South Africa — CAPS, Grades 1 to 12

Grace is a conversational AI tutor built on CAPS. It teaches the method, then asks your child to try the next one alone.

An AI tutor that refuses to hand over the answer.

The obvious worry about an AI tutor is that a child will use it to finish homework without learning anything. It is a fair worry, and it is the single thing Grace is built to prevent.

Ask Grace a question and it does not produce the answer. It works through the method one step at a time, in the way the grade is taught, and then sets a similar question for your child to attempt alone. If they get it wrong, it goes back a step rather than forward.

It is voice enabled, which is how Foundation Phase learners use it, and it reads photographed worksheets, which is how everyone else does.

Can you just tell me the answer to number 6?

I could, and then question 7 would be just as hard. Read me what the question gives you.

A triangle with two sides and the angle between them.

Then you have enough for the cosine rule. Write down the formula and tell me which letter is which in your triangle.

What the AI tutor actually does.

Three functions on one platform, all built on the same CAPS content.

Homework Help

Step-by-step help with tonight’s work. Photograph the page instead of retyping it. Method first, answer second, every time.

AI Tutor

Teaches the topic rather than the single question — useful when the gap is not one sum but a concept from two terms ago.

Test & Exam Readiness

CAPS-aligned assessments and past-paper style practice with worked marking, so weak spots surface before the exam does.

Where an AI tutor is not the right answer.

We would rather say this before you subscribe than have you discover it afterwards.

  • A diagnosed learning difficulty that needs a specialist remedial teacher. That is a different profession and it is worth paying for.
  • A learner who genuinely will not work without a person in the room. You know which yours is.
  • Severe, entrenched gaps — several grades behind — where a structured remedial programme beats on-demand help.

Where it does win is the ordinary case: a capable child who gets stuck on specific things at unpredictable times, across several subjects, more often than a weekly hour can absorb. That describes most families.

Questions about the AI tutor.

Will it do my child’s homework for them?

It is built not to. Grace works the method and then hands the next question back. If your child wants an answer machine, this will frustrate them.

Is it safe for a young child to use?

Grace is built for school work and stays there. In the Foundation Phase we expect a parent to be sitting alongside anyway, which is how that age group learns.

Does it work in Afrikaans and other languages?

It works in English and Afrikaans, and in isiZulu and isiXhosa for those subjects. For a First Additional Language learner it will often explain a rule in English and then apply it in the target language.

Is it voice enabled?

Yes. It reads aloud and listens, which is how Grades 1 to 3 use it and how oral practice works.

What does it cost?

From R275 a month for the full subject load. See pricing for the three plans.
